App, Responsive Web, Design

RoosterMoney is a pocket money app designed to help parents teach their children the value of money in a digital age. The brief was to design a simple, educational and playful app for children, as young as 4, and their parents. The app aimed to help children track their money, save toward goals, follow their chores, and earn rewards while their parents oversee what money goes in and out of their account.

I was the only UX designer in a startup team. I was brought in to resign the current app, finding better UX solutions and defining new features and future road map for the app. I worked closely with the CEO, product manager, developers and designer to bring this product to life.

Empowering Parents

RoosterMoney came with a unique brief, designing for parents and their children, as young as 4 years of age, all in one app. I constantly had to shift mindset between  parents’ needs and children’s’ needs. For parents we aimed to design a simple and easy way to give them a full oversight of all their children’s accounts. As well as the ability to quickly add, manage and switch between their account and their children’s account.

Educating Children

“World would be a better place if we all started talking about money earlier.”

Our designs were inspired by the classic money pots concept. We aimed to design a fun way to visualise pots and teach children the essence of saving, spending, and giving to charity. We also wanted to give children the ability to quickly transfer their hard earned cash between pots, and see it visually reflected as one pot shrinks while the other grows.

Watch that Rooster climb

Like any banking app, one of the main features is to be able to see the statement of each account. However, since our main target are children, we wanted to sprinkle some fun and playfulness in the app. We used the iconic brand figure (the rooster) to help kids visualise their money as it goes in and out of their account. We also designed simple transaction cards, as the cards are swiped right or left the rooster move to the relevant point on the graph. All of the pots are designed with the same look and feel with a slight colour differentiator, providing children a consistent way of viewing their money.

Marketing website

RoosterMoney team were also looking for a flexible template designs that they could use for their marketing website. I was tasked to design templates for main pages as well as article pages. The templates were made of several flexible component that could be changed as needed. This gave the team a variety of choices depending of the type of page they wanted to create.
